How fit do I need to be?

Most of our teahouse treks (Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp) need a good base level of fitness: several hours of walking a day, on consecutive days, on uneven terrain. Regular cardio and hill walking in the months before your trip goes a long way. Family and cultural trips carry little to no trekking and suit a much wider range of fitness levels. Check the grade on each trek page and ask us if you're unsure it's right for you.

What about altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is a real risk above roughly 2,500-3,000m and is not related to fitness. Our itineraries build in rest and acclimatisation days at altitude as standard, and guides are trained to recognise the early signs and adjust the plan when needed. Walk slowly, drink water, and tell your guide immediately if you feel unwell.

When is the best season to trek in Nepal?

Spring (March-May) and autumn (late September-November) have the most stable weather and the clearest mountain views, and are the busiest months on the popular routes. Winter and summer/monsoon treks are possible on some routes with the right expectations around cold, rain or cloud cover. Ask us about the best window for your specific trek.

Do I need a permit?

Most treks require a TIMS card and one or more national park or conservation area permits (for example Sagarmatha National Park for Everest, or the Annapurna Conservation Area). We arrange the permits your trek needs as part of the trip; you just need your passport and passport photos.

What's included in the trip price?

Accepted Answer

This varies by trek, so check the includes/excludes list on each trek page. As a rule, guiding, permits, and accommodation on the trail are included; international flights, Nepal visa fees, travel insurance, and personal spending are not. Ask us for a full breakdown before you book.

Question 6

Can I trek solo, or do I need a group?

Accepted Answer

Both are available. We run scheduled small-group departures, and we can also arrange a private trip for solo travellers, couples or families on most routes. Solo trekking without a licensed guide is restricted on a number of routes in Nepal, so a guide is required either way.

Question 7

Do I need travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation (including helicopter rescue) is required for every trip we run. Standard travel insurance often excludes trekking above a certain altitude, so check the policy covers the maximum altitude of your trek before you buy it.

What if my Lukla flight is delayed?

Flights to and from Lukla are weather-dependent and delays are common, especially in the mornings or during the monsoon. We build buffer days into Everest region itineraries where we can, and our guides manage rebooking on your behalf if a flight is delayed or cancelled. Keep a day or two of flexibility either side of your trip if possible.

Should I tip my guide and porters?

Tipping is customary in Nepal's trekking industry and is a meaningful part of a guide's or porter's income, though it is never compulsory. We can advise on a typical range for your group size and trip length before you set off.

Is drinking water and electricity available on the trek?

Accepted Answer

Teahouses along the popular routes sell bottled and boiled water, and most now offer paid phone/battery charging and, at lower elevations, wifi. Coverage and reliability drop the higher you go. We recommend a water purification method (tablets or a filter) as backup and a spare power bank.

Do I need a visa for Nepal?

Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, paid in cash or card, with a passport photo. Check the current requirement for your nationality before you travel, as rules do change.
